Years ago it was very common to have a small insurance policy which paid out on death, and the money would be used to pay for your funeral costs.
These days this type of policy is not so common even though funeral costs seem to increase year by year. When someone dies without putting money aside to pay for their own funeral, unfortunately it leaves the surviving family having to pay the cost. This may not always be possible and can increase stress levels at what is already a very difficult time.
In certain circumstances you may get help from the Government with funeral costs. To qualify you must be in receipt of certain benefits or tax credits.
