Is it really possible to die of a ‘broken heart’? You may know someone who died shortly after their partner’s death, as if they were heartbroken and unable to go on without their loved one.
British Heart Foundation funded researchers have been studying this phenomenon and have come up with some very thought provoking findings.
‘Broken Heart Syndrome’ is a serious stress-induced condition which affects mainly women and can cause long-lasting damage and scarring to the heart muscle.
It can cause the same symptoms as a heart attack, and although the coronary arteries are not blocked, the risk of complications is similar to those of an actual heart attack.
