There are several Trade Associations for Funeral Directors and other practitioners in the Funeral Industry. I am an associate member of The National Association of Funeral Directors. The Association ensures that its members set the highest standards of customer care in the industry through a robust Code of Practice, Code of Professional Standards and Independent Arbitration Service.
The NAFD represents thousands of funeral homes across the UK and members are subject to regular standards inspections, as well as having to abide by the Association’s Code of Professional Standards and Code of Practice. The public should feel confident that in choosing an NAFD member, they are picking a business which has high standards at its heart.

When you don’t get the service you expected
96% of families were happy with the service they get from Funeral Directors and associated professionals according to YouGov’s Survey 2018. This means a small 4% of bereaved families were not satisfied with the services of their funeral director. If this should involve an NAFD member the association are keen, where possible, to seek resolution on both sides.
As a condition of membership of the National Association of Funeral Directors, funeral firms are bound by the terms of the Association’s Code of Practice and required to comply with a client’s wishes to proceed to conciliation or arbitration under the Scheme and to abide by its rulings. The Funeral Arbitration Scheme is an independent conciliation and arbitration scheme designed to resolve complaints from clients relating to NAFD member funeral firms.
